Introduction

Establish context
Mention the title of the book and its author. Either do this in a simple, straightforward fashion, or more indirectly, while trying to draw the reader's attention to the subject the author is interested in (e.g. "In Much Ado About Nothing Shakespeare deals with…" ).

Establish further focus
Mention the author's purpose. It is usually stated explicitly in the preface or introduction, or on the back cover.

Give opinion
Give your general response to the author's work, i.e. whether you agree, disagree, or partly agree with it. Remember that you will have to support this view in your critique.
