Celia Alba defends her thesis on WH-interrogative sentences in LSC.

On the 26th of January, Celia Alba, one of the researches at the LSC Lab, successfully defended her thesis “WH-questions in Catalan Sign Language”. The thesis discusses wh-questions in LSC, which are questions characterized by elements such as WHAT, HOW, WHERE, WHY, etc. The thesis proposes an experiment on short term memory to explain the preferred clause-final position of WH-elements, which is shared by many sign languages but that is never found in spoken languages. The thesis has been supervised by Josep Quer and Joana Rosselló. The members of the committee were Cristina Baus (Université Aix-Marseille, CNRS), Carlo Cecchetto (Università di Milano-Bicocca) and Carme Picallo (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona).
